Seeing Micheal again brought back all the memories she had of spending the night in his bed. Alison tried to ignore the throbbing, because she was not going to have sex with him when she was nearly nine months pregnant, and sat down opposite him. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be." He'd already bought her an orange juice and she sipped it. "Talk to me."

"He doesn't want the baby. I don't think he ever wanted the baby. He just wanted to be like his parents and that... I can't do it any more, Micheal. I want to be out of there, I want to be away from the looks he gives me, and I want to know that I'm with someone who can love us both." Alison blinked away more tears. "He doesn't love me now. He just doesn't know how to let me go and the only chance of that happening is if my baby is yours too."

Micheal bit his lip. "That really was a terrible idea the two of us came up with."

"Yes, it was, but..." She sighed. "I hate this. I hate that I'm not happy with him. I hate that our relationship has turned into what it is, but there's nothing I can do to change it, not without his help, and he doesn't want to do anything. All he seems to care about now is his money."

Between the sex they'd talked, because Micheal wanted to understand, and she was grateful they had. "Is there any other way you can convince him to let you leave him?"

"Not that I can think of and I've been trying for the last nine months. I know he's going to kick me out if the baby is mixed race, because there's no chance of it being his, and he's told me before if I make him a cuckold he won't give me anything - which is something I can fight in the courts if I really want to. He didn't have the money when we married. It belonged to his parents and their death led to him, for some unknown reason, becoming his father. That's why he never gives me cash. He thinks gifts are good enough."

"Which they aren't. Not in this world."

Alison nodded. "I've warned my parents. They both know I'm not happy, they both know there might be someone else, and they're both willing to help me with the baby."

"I'm willing to help."

"I can't ask you to do that."

"You're not asking. I'm offering." Micheal reached out and took hold of her hand. "I was an equal partner in all of this and I'm not going to let you be alone to raised the baby if it is mine." He looked at her stomach. "You do look gorgeous, Alison. I just wish there was some happiness in your eyes instead of all that pain."

"Everything will be okay in the end. That's something I'm certain of. I just wish I didn't have to go to these extremes."
